7th thru 12th Grade
For this class, I am tasked with choosing 5 books that fit within the designated age range of 7th to 12th graders. This page contains the information necessary for this project, specifically for books young readers ages 12/13 to 17/18. The library where I work has two types or categories of books for this age range:
- Tween Fiction and Nonfiction, and includes graphic novels and audiobooks
- Young Adult Fiction and Nonfiction, and includes graphic novels and audiobooks
Below are the categories we were instructed to select from, and the titles I chose for this project. The categories with ** were mandatory for this project.
- 1 Romance
- 1 Novel in Verse
- 1 Biography or Autobiography
- I have chosen: Agent Most Wanted: the Never-before-told Story of the Most Dangerous Spy of World War II by Sonia Purnell - this is a Young Adult Nonfiction book
- 1 Fantasy
- 1 Science Fiction
- 1 Historical Fiction
- I have chosen: Salt to the Sea by Ruta Sepetys - this is a Young Adult Fiction book
- 1 Mystery/Suspense or Horror
- I have chosen: The Secret Box by Whitaker Ringwald - this is a Tween Mystery book
- 1 LGBTQ+ (any genre)
- 1 Printz winner or Printz Honor book**
- I have chosen: Long Way Down by Jason Reynolds - this is a Young Adult Fiction book
- 1 National Book award winner
- 1 Graphic Novel or Manga volume**
- I have chosen: Surfside Girls: The Mystery at the Old Rancho by Kim Dwinelle - this is a Tween Graphic Novel
- 1 Banned or Challenged Book
Disclaimer 1: I acknowledge that a lot of adult humans read YA books, I occasionally pick them up myself and see them frequently selected by a lot of my library's patrons. But for the scope of this project, I am following publisher and library guidelines for reading age. I believe that you can read what you desire regardless of age when it comes to novels classified as "Adult" or "Young Adult".
