This novel gives insight into a group of people we don’t talk about enough, the Deaf and Hard of Hearing. The protagonists and characters represent just a few lenses we as outsiders can look through to develop a better understanding of the importance of their culture and beliefs. As someone who has worked with the Deaf and Hard of Hearing, this novel was eye-opening, I could begin to understand why they view Cochlear Implants and the hearing world the way they do. This book is compelling and thought provoking, and the narrative is interspersed with useful American Sign Language education.
