Brief Response
The story of a father and son and their quest to learn about
“The Real Japan”. Not temples, history or art, but manga, anime, and the people
involved. This ill-prepared father and son duo traverse around Tokyo, meeting
prominent individuals within the manga culture. Carey’s lack of knowledge on etiquette,
location safety, and failure to plan a way to communicate was infuriating. However,
at least he often acknowledged his missteps and inserted the corrections that those
he met on his travels put upon him. Recommended for fans of manga and its influences
and background; not for those who think it is about travel in Japan.
